June 20, 2010 Twelfth Sunday In Ordinary Time Fr. J i m's M es s a g e Happy Father's Day! This year's celebration of our Dads is a little bitter- sweet for me. A couple days ago, my niece "Zsa Zsa" texted me about miss- ing her grandpa and how strange it is for her to come out of dance recital and not see his smiling face waiting for her. I reminded her that he had more than a smile. He had on his green sweater that seemed to go with everything (Dad was color blind!); and of course he had some type of Detroit cap on, usually it was a Tiger cap! We both shared a laugh over that because we needed some laughter right then and there. Yet what Zsa Zsa misses along with everyone else in the family was Dad's words of encouragement before or after an event. Each word was expressed with love and pride. There were no con- structive criticisms or words that brought about disappointment. Dad was up- beat and happy to see his children and grandchildren participating in the Listen to a things that they loved. Maybe it was Dad's angry voice because Inge took another called third strike to end a Tiger rally; or Proverbs 4:1 maybe it was Dad getting all revved up because Verlander was pitching an- other gem. Many things would happen within a phone call to Dad. It may have started off as baseball talk but it would lead into other things that may have been on my mind or my heart.
