May 23, 2010 Pentecost Sunday Fr. Jim's Message Pentecost has arrived and we welcome the gift of the Jesus said to them again, Holy Spirit to come upon us and remind us that we have work to be done for the Kingdom of God. The Holy Spirit is the gift that Jesus promised us that would be sent from "Peace be with you. His Father enabling us to go and proclaim the Good News that Christ has conquered sin and death. Our newly con- As the Father has sent me, firmed should be eager to do this task especially with a parish that is willing to mentor and encourage our young so I send you." to carry on the tasks that so many have done over the years. In speaking with some of the newly confirmed, And when he had said this, many of these young people stated to me that they de- sired the gift of wisdom. We are a very diverse parish and he breathed on them and my hope is that the older and wiser parish members would be willing to mentor and assist our younger parish mem- said to them, bers in learning how to embrace the gifts of the Holy Spirit and share these gifts with the rest of our community. We "Receive the Holy Spirit." have a great deal of wisdom within our midst, I hope that the young will listen to the wise but I also hope the wise Jn 20:21-22 will give of themselves willingly their knowledge of faith and their love of Jesus Christ. As we welcome the Holy Spirit on this day, we pray that the Holy Spirit will guide our students from Cardinal Mooney High School as they celebrate graduation com- mencement today. These young men and women are about to face new challenges and new experiences as they close one chapter in their lives and begin a new one away from the campus they called home for many years. This day brings some sadness to our parish and our com- munity because of the presence that they brought to us. Yet it is also a time for joy because we want these young men and women to embrace new challenges and build upon their talents so it can be shared with our Church and our community. I know that we wish them well and pray that these graduates allow the Holy Spirit to lead and guide them as they say good bye to us today. Finally, I have to say thanks for all the people who have donated flowers to be planted around the parish gar- dens. This gift is greatly appreciated and accepted be- cause it really does beautify our church sites. I am grateful for the gift and I am grateful to those volunteers who are planting them and giving back to Our Lady through their time and efforts.
