A Note From The Principal

As we return to ordinary time in the liturgical year, our school year is anything but ordinary! We are now entering our last week of school for the 2008-2009 school

year! As we prepare for the upcoming summer vacation, I ask that you please keep our students and their families in your thoughts and prayers.
This past Friday, twenty-four eighth graders joined the ranks of Holy Cross Alumni. As these students begin their high school careers, please join me in praying

that the academic and spiritual support system that they built at Holy Cross will be a firm foundation for their future.
Tomorrow, our kindergarten class will graduate. We have been truly blessed to join our families as their partners in the Catholic education of our youngest

students. The rest of our student body will participate in their annual honors assembly on Thursday morning, which is the culmination of our school year.
Before we end our school year, we have some other fun events to share, particularly our annual Field Day! Please pray for a beautiful day as we participate in our

various athletic feats on Wednesday, June 10 at the East China Township Park!
While this year ends, we are busy planning for next year. We would like to welcome your children and grandchildren as our newest Crusaders. Please join us on

Tuesday, June 9th from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the cafeteria for our registration night. Stop in and sign up to join the Crusader family. If you have any questions, please call the

school office or stop in and visit our registration night.
There are many ‘myths’ that I hear about each year and do my best to clarify. One is that you have to pay your entire year’s tuition up front for your child. Actually,

we offer a number of payment plans for your tuition, including monthly, quarterly, and personalized plans. We accept cash, checks, and credit card payments as well. What

is stopping you from becoming a Crusader? We also offer scholarships for new families! Please come in to learn more about these opportunities.
Have you bought SCRIP lately? Do you have any questions regarding the program? Did you know that your SCRIP credits reduce your tuition? Stop in to learn

more about this convenient program.

In His Service,
Mrs. Amanda Lund

Pastor's Page
So many things are going as we begin this month of June. We are celebrating the Eighth Graders graduating from Holy Cross, but we cannot forget our young parish

members who are graduating from the respective schools in our area. As we pray for our youth as they begin a new chapter in their lives we ask that the Holy Spirit continue

to guide them in their travels and in their decision making. I applaud all of our graduates for their work and pray for them to receive bigger and better things in their life.
Last week I was fortunate enough to attend the priestly ordination at the Cathedral. I was so proud of our former intern Fr. Charles White. He seemed very calm

and relaxed in the sacristy with his classmates. I even think he cracked a joke or two while we were lining up to process into the Cathedral. Fr. White will be celebrating

Masses of Thanksgiving the weekend of June 20th at 4:00 pm and the 21st at 9:30 am. Please mark that down in your calendars so you can welcome back a young man

who truly loved his stay at Our Lady on the River.
As Fr. Charles celebrated the Sacrament of Holy Orders, I was celebrating my fifth anniversary of ordination. I was very grateful of the gift that was presented to me

by the students and faculty of Holy Cross School. It is a beautiful stole decorated with all kinds of children on it. It will be something I will be proud to wear at special

celebrations. To all of you, who remembered me on my anniversary, thank you! I am not one who likes too much fanfare when it comes to birthdays and anniversaries. I like

it quiet and simple.
What hasn’t been too quiet lately is the work being done around the Marine City site. The stain glass windows are being repaired and updated with a new

protective covering as per the agreement of the capital campaign. The workers are giving a good effort but I questioned one of them as to why he would wear a Minnesota

Twins baseball cap in Detroit Tiger country! As that work is being started, the work for Cardinal Mooney High School is also on-going. It is amazing how fast they put that

frame up and how quickly the foundation was poured. I give thanks to Sr. Karen Lietz for spearheading that project and taking that responsibility off my shoulders. We are

truly blessed by having Sr. Karen in our community as leader and teacher of our youth.
I would like to thank all those that put their name into the hat for a seat on the Parish Council. Congratulations to our four new members that will be joining the

Parish Council: Mary Patrick, Dr. Chuck Ongena, Barbara Persyn, and Catherine Nutter
Before I close, I would like to recognize all the people who volunteered their time and energy at Maritime Days, especially Don Smith. I know Fr. Matt recognized

you in his article last week, but I wanted to give my thanks. A lot of hard work went into that event and I am grateful to each and every one of you for giving back to the parish

and the community as a whole.

Prayers to all for a blessed week!
	Fr. Jim

Let us praise the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, the Most Holy Trinity!

Last Sunday we celebrated the feast of Pentecost, the manifestation of the Holy Spirit of truth who was promised by Jesus and who directs us toward real

knowledge of the Lord. Today, the Church celebrates a special feast for the Holy Trinity. Our traditional “act of faith”, which I recall learning in the third grade begins: “O my

God, I firmly believe that You are ONE God in three Divine Persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.” We say that our God is one God in three Persons. Fr. Cantalamessa

relates that “The life of the Trinity is a mystery of relation. The Trinity reveals the secret to good relationships. On this feast of the unity of God, we believe in unity of nature

not of number.” The Trinity is truly the source of our faith as well as the goal of our lives. There is absolute individuality, equality and unity within the Trinity!
In Economic Justice for All (1986), p. 64, the U.S. Bishops state: “Christian theological reflection on the very reality of God as a Trinitarian unity of persons –

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – shows that being a person means being united to other persons in mutual love.” The contemplation of the Trinity can have an important

impact on our human life. We know that happiness or unhappiness on earth depend much on the quality of our relationships. God is love and reveals to us the true meaning

of love. Unity of love, intentions and collaboration echo the love of God in our lives and in all of creation! Let’s pray and hope that for our parish, our communion in faith will

become a more perfect likeness of the most Holy Blessed Trinity.
Special Thanks to many….who brought lovely red geraniums on Pentecost weekend, and to the hard-working “flower crew” who braved the rain and volunteered

their time and energy to plant them outdoors around the parish grounds to bring God’s creative beauty for all to enjoy. God love you! A special thank you goes to Judy &

Joseph Biland for their donation of the large beautiful planters of geraniums at the entrances of St. Catherine church.
Eucharistic Ministers needed—If you are a Eucharistic Minister or would like to be, know that your service is needed to bring Holy Communion on Saturdays to our

parish residents at Medilodge in St. Clair. Please give the parish office a call if you would like to be a part of this ministry of service, and someone will contact you with

details. Thank you.
New Brainquest Challenges….on Saints in Every Vocation……Who is considered the saint of the impossible? Clue: In Italy -Became an Augustinian Nun later in

life. Claim your Big Boy prize with the correct answer by Tuesday!
May the grace of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, the love of God, Our Father, and the joy and peace of the Holy Spirit be with us all!

Our next “Sewing Bee” will be Sunday, June 7th at the St. Catherine Activity Center from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. We will be sewing pillowcase dresses. We are in need of

3/8 or 1/2 inch wide elastic and extra wide bias tape, rick rack & lace. These items can be dropped off at the church office or The Algonac Water Lily. We will need

volunteers to cut out dresses and elastic, iron and sew dresses. If you can help with any of these skills, we would deeply appreciate it. For more info, contact Rose at

810-794-3187.

Online calendars are on the parish and location websites.

What is the R.C.I.A.?

The Rite of Christian Initiation for adults, (R.C.I.A.), is an instruction and conversion process for welcoming newcomers or returning baptized Catholics who want to

learn about the Catholic faith to full communion in the Roman Catholic Church.
Who should attend?
Those not yet baptized, and those seeking information about becoming Catholic. Those baptized in another Christian denomination who desire full communion and

membership in the Catholic Church. Adult Catholics who have not received First Eucharist or Confirmation and wish to update their faith knowledge and personal spiritual

growth.
Do I have to commit to the entire 2009-2010 year?
Not yet! The inquiry/pre-catechumenate series phase is designed to provide basic information and experience with prayer and Catholic practice, so that one can

make a decision to continue or decide that this is not the right time in their life. No one is ever pressured to proceed through the process, as that decision is between each

person and God.
How do I become a participant?
If you would like more information or be included in the Fall Inquiry Sessions, please call the parish office, or mention your desire to Fr. Jim, Fr. Matt or Sr. Mary

Ann. It would also help to fill out the form below and return it in the offering basket or to the parish office.
Come, we hope to see YOU.

Vocation Family Prayer Comments

Each Sunday, at the 9:30 a.m., 10:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Mass, anyone is Invited to take home the parish crucifix and prayer manual to pray at home for

vocations. Each week, those who have had this privilege, are invited to write comments on their experience.

“This week I have had the opportunity to reflect back on my time as a young person attending Catholic school. I now realize how fortunate I was to have had those

early experiences. Having been taught by those who had accepted the call of God, helped create the man I am today. The guidance I received early on from the priests and

nuns provided a strong foundation by teaching the fundamentals for living a good Christian life. I understand that it is of great importance to continue to have people answer

God’s call. I believe it is a special blessing from God when someone has a vocation to religious life. We need those who are called to lead by example as they serve our faith

community.
I have prayed this week for all who are now discerning a vocation to the priesthood or religious life. I ask God to enter their hearts and minds, providing answers and

granting them peace in their decision. I also continue to offer thanks and pray for all who have or are currently serving our Catholic community. Thank You.”

Tips To Improve Your Memory

Here are some simple things that you can do to improve your memory.
1. Stay mentally active. Do a crossword puzzle, read the newspaper, volunteer at a local school, learn to play a musical instrument, or just listen to classical music.
2. Get organized. Jot down tasks and appointments in a special notebook. Keep a to-do list and check off accomplished tasks.
3. Eat a healthy diet. Focus on vegetables, fruits, whole grains, poultry and fish. Also not enough water can lead to confusion and memory loss.
4. Include physical activity in your daily routine. Physical activity increases the blood flow to your brain. Aim for 30 minutes of aerobic activity a day, or try for a few 10

minute walks.

If you are worried about memory loss, speak with your doctor, whop is likely to do a physical exam.

Sharing the Gospel

When you were baptized, the priest used the same words as Jesus in today's Gospel. He said, "I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the

Holy Spirit." The water of baptism is God's bath of forgiveness. Baptism washes all your sins away. Baptism makes you a forgiven child of God so that you can enter

heaven's gate.

Prayer
Lord, when I hurt others, teach me to say, "I am sorry. Will you forgive me?" Amen

Something to Draw
Draw a baby being baptized. Show holy water pouring over the baby's head.

Mission for the Week
When others hurt me, I will say, "I forgive you."

Words To Live By

We should celebrate the day of our Baptism as we do our Birthday! How many of the baptized are fully aware of what they have received? We must rediscover this

gift which also means taking on a great responsibility.
-Pope John Paul II
Died in Christ

Please remember in your prayers:

	V Robert Beckman, Sr.
	V Leonard Babel
	V Helen Hawley

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord.
Let the Perpetual Light shine upon them.
May they rest in peace. Amen.

Maritime Days Follow-up
Meeting

IMPORTANT MEETING!

All current Altar Servers, whether at St. Catherine or at Holy Cross, are requested to attend an IMPORTANT meeting for all servers. The meeting will take place at

Holy Cross Church on Saturday, June 13th @ 10:00 a.m. We will be reviewing changes in how the Mass is to be served. Parents are also welcome to attend to help the

servers retain what is discussed. If you have any questions, please contact Don Smith, Director of Altar Servers at 810-765-5542.
Crocodile Dock volunteers are still needed. There will be a second meeting on Monday, July 13th at St. Catherine Activity Center. Crocodile Dock will be the week

of July 27th-31st. For further information or questions, contact Stacy @ 810-765-0784 or Cathy @ 810-794-7367.
We will be incorporating small groups this year called Bayou Crews which are led by adults or teenagers who love children and love the Lord. This allows

elementary children to be mixed with age groups who are through grade 5. There are many reasons in which developing the love for the Lord is so effective in this way. More

information will be in upcoming bulletins…

imploring the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Perpetual Help, for her comfort in these times of economic distress.

7 Wonders of the World

A group of students was asked to list what they thought were the present Seven Wonders of the World. Though there was some disagreement, the following got

the most votes:
1. Egypt’s great pyramids
2. Taj Mahal
3. Grand Canyon
4. Panama Canal
5. The Empire State Building
6. St. Peter’s Basilica
7. The Great Wall of China
While counting up the votes, the teacher noted that one quiet student hadn’t turned in his paper yet, so she asked the child if he was having trouble with his list.

“Yes, a little,” he said. “I can’t quite make up my mind because there are so many.”
The teacher said, “Well, tell us what you have and maybe we can help.”
The boy hesitated, then read," I think the Seven Wonders of the World are:
1. to touch,
2. to taste,
3. to see,
4. to hear.”
He hesitated a little , then added,
“5. to feel,
6. to laugh,
7. to love.”
The room was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
