Pastor's Page
As we continue our celebration of Easter we are reminded of the mercy of Jesus Christ. The Apostle, Thomas, believes because he is able to probe the nail markings of the Savior. Thomas is in such a dilemma because he wants to believe that Jesus has risen but he also knew that there were coups by the Jewish leadership to do anything in stopping Jesus’ ministry, especially in regards to the miracle of resurrection. Jesus appears in front of Thomas and offers him two things: first, he enters their room saying peace is with you. The Prince of Peace is in their midst and he shares that peace with them and gives that peace as a gift. Second, he allows Thomas’ fingers to feel the nail marks in his hands allowing him to believe with his eyes what could not be believed with his heart. This act is done with mercy and compassion.

Both offerings to Thomas are offered to us as well. First, Jesus reminds us daily that his peace is in our midst. It is present in the caregiver who tends to the sick and suffering. It is present in the soldier or civil servant who willingly puts their life on the line to serve and protect the lives of others. There are many more examples but true peace comes through faith. Faith believes without seeing. And we have many who have a strong faith in Jesus Christ because they are lead by their hearts and not their eyes. However, there are many who are struggling just as Thomas because they need their belief confirmed. It is not uncommon especially today because we live in a society where things are verified on film or recordings. A person’s word is not as binding as before; it is necessary to see or hear in order to believe. But, blessed are those who believe without seeing.

Final Notes: Many thanks to those who made our Holy Week such a wonderful celebration. To our music ministers, our ushers, our sacristans, our decorators and all who volunteered their time or service, my sincere thanks for all your hard work and effort in taking the anxieties out of my life. I am truly humbled by all the blessings I received during Holy Week! And I can not forget the jobs Fr. Matt, Sr. Mary Ann and the rest of staff did while I was called away to tend to my Dad. They are truly amazing and I will never forget their sacrifices for my benefit.

God’s Blessings to all,
Fr. Jim

A Note From The Principal

Alleluia! He Is Risen! I pray as we begin the Easter season, that you will feel Jesus’ presence in the world around you. The Little White Book discusses the stone placed before the entrance of Jesus’ tomb. The stone was larger than the stones usually used because Pilate wanted to be sure that no one would move Jesus’ body. However, there was no stone that would keep Jesus sealed in His tomb. Likewise, if we have faith, there is no stone that is too large for us to move!
Registration packages will be available next week for our current families and those wanting to become Holy Cross Crusaders. Please stop in or call the school office if you are interested in receiving a package. We would also be happy to provide you with a tour. We would also like to welcome your child to spend part of a day visiting Holy Cross. Please call the school office to schedule an appointment. Would you like to learn more about Holy Cross from our parents? We would be happy to introduce you to a mentor family who can also answer your questions about Holy Cross.
Do you have a child who will turn three by December 1st and is potty-trained (or who needs the incentive to start using the toilet)? What better way to help this process along than by joining our Holy Cross Preschool! We have openings for both three and four-year-olds for next year’s program. We also invite our interested preschoolers to visit the classroom for part of a day in preschool. Please call the school office to make an appointment.
On Sunday, April 26th from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. we will be holding a Preschool and Kindergarten Open House. You and your child are invited to stop in, meet our teachers, and see our classrooms. Registration packets will also be available. I am looking forward to seeing you then!
Have you heard about our SCRIP program? Have you started using it to plan for your future Crusader’s education? Please stop in to learn more about this program. Your children will thank you!

In His Service,
Mrs. Amanda Lund, Principal

Sharing the Gospel

In today's Gospel, Thomas had a hard time believing his friends. Jesus was alive! They saw Jesus! Well, Thomas could not believe it. He needed proof. Thomas wanted to see Jesus for himself. Thomas wanted to touch Jesus' scars on his hands and his side. Once Thomas did that, then he would believe. You may have doubting friends like Thomas. Be patient with them. Do not get angry with them. Love them instead, and gently tell the truth about Jesus. Ask Jesus to open their hearts, so they can believe in him, too.

Prayer
God, help me to be patient with my doubting friends. Show them that Jesus is their savior, too. Amen

Something to Draw
Draw a picture of yourself playing with a friend who does not believe in Jesus.

Mission for the Week
Talk to God about a friend who does not believe in Jesus. Ask God to give you the right words to say about Jesus. Then ask God to help you be patient.

Thoughts From Your Pastoral Associate
Parish Lenten Prayer For Vocations Comments

This was a lovely home-prayer effort. I prayed one page a day and that worked well. I noticed more prayers for deacons and Brothers. This is wonderful because it shows that as a deacon you can be married and still help spread the Gospel and bring people to Christ.
I will try to encourage and support vocations in my walk of life, even if all I can do is pray for them.
Charlotte Foley

Placing the crucifix in the center of my dining room table – which I see daily – gave me the opportunity to reflect on and pray for vocations several times during the day. The prayers in the prepared book helped focus thoughts of vocations – not just in the priesthood, but in all areas of our lives.
Mary Patrick

I prayed the last three days in one day. I hope for and pray for religious vocations as we are so in need of them.
I especially felt the message in the prayer for family vocations , as I feel strongly that what we teach our children by word and example will help them continue to spread the word of Christ again through their word and example. I will continue to pray for religious vocation as I have a Deacon and a Nun in our family.
Patricia R. Moore

We felt privileged to say these prayers before the crucifix in our home. It was awesome! It seemed like the whole parish was saying this with us.
Our Bible Study Group was at our home this week, and they said the prayers with us. We were also able to tell the grandchildren about our special assignment for the parish.
This was a good opportunity to let them know the necessity of prayers for religious vocations as well as marriage and single life.
Bob and Jackie Pontseele

Thank you to Our Lady on the River Parish for starting the Prayer Cross for Vocations. We all have someone in our lives, (family and friends), who are discerning what path to choose for their life. While there are many choices – priesthood, religious, married life or single life – there is only one that is right for us.
Just by having this parish cross available to us is a reminder not only to pray for our own vocation, but for our family, friends, and parish members as they choose theirs. I hope this continues because it is an avenue to promote prayer in the home.
Carol Fett

A Word From Our RCIA Sponsors

I have become closer to God and closer in prayer than before I became Catholic. I feel better because of it. I’m proud of my granddaughters as they become Catholic on their journey in faith.
Leona Daniel

I‘ve been Catholic since I was baptized as an infant. It is the religion of my parents, grandparents and their parents. I have fond memories of going to Mass and being taught by the Sisters of St. Joseph here at St. Catherine’s. Being Catholic is special. It is the core of who I am. It brings stability to my world. It’s knowing that God is there with me at all times with real, unconditional love.
I like that our religion is universal. I can go to Mass when I’m away, knowing that it will be the same celebration everywhere.
Believing in God and praying to Him brings joy and meaning to my life. It helps me to live in a way that hopefully will let me be united with God and all my relatives and friends someday in Heaven.
Shari Thompson

I have been a member of St. Catherine’s since 1992 when I moved here from Roseville. I was raised a Catholic and my family is very much Catholic. My brother, David is attending Sacred Heart Seminary for the past six years.
My faith comes from my parents and my brother who have always believed that God has a purpose for all of us, and is always there to guide us through whatever may come our way.
I hope that I can help those in need, help others to understand our faith, and live a good life. I would like to thank Fr. Lopez for helping me to renew my faith.
