Holy Week has finally arrived! We rush to greet our Lord with our palms and make way for the road to Calvary. But there are a few questions: what are we placing on Jesus’
pathway? Have we placed our fears or anxieties? Did we give Jesus our sins and ask Him to place them on the Cross for us? Remember, Christ has continually asked us to
give Him our sins so that they can be nailed to the Cross of Salvation. Jesus is the true Lamb of Sacrifice because Jesus is shedding His innocent blood for our acts of
selfishness or disobedience. Christ is doing this act willingly because of His love for all of us. What does Jesus ask from us in return? Love Him as He loves
us…UNCONDITIONALLY! It is a very simple request, but yet it is sometimes the most difficult act for a person to do in one’s life, to love someone without condition. So, as
we walk towards with our Savior let us do so with hearts shaped like Jesus’: hearts of sacrifice, hearts of unconditional love.
Just a few reminders regarding Holy Week: Please check the times and locations for our services in this bulletin edition. We have multiple liturgical activities
happening at all three sites. Fr. Matt and I will do our very best to lead or attend as much as we can but we can not be everywhere. We ask for patience as we adjust to this
transition in our lives. I also ask that we continue our prayers for those about to enter into full union with the Church by their receiving of the Sacraments at the Easter Vigil.
This journey that they have traveled is not an ending rather it is a new beginning in their faith; a journey that never ends and is eternal with Christ as their Light and their
Love.
Finally, on a more personal note, I would like to congratulate the Cardinal Mooney Girls’ basketball team for their successful season and their drive towards a State
Championship. A final four berth is nothing to hang your head down about because not many teams can say that they went that far in the tournament. It was more than
watching games because they enabled me to really spend time with my older brother, Joe. We do not get to see as much of each other because of the distance in our
locations, but used the TEAM as a vehicle to talk a little more on the phone, visit a little more and just be brothers. So I thank the girls for helping me reconnect with my
older brother. It is the greatest gift they could have given to me from their season.
All My Prayers,
Fr. Jim

A Note From The Principal
Last weekend was a wonderfully busy weekend at Holy Cross. Thank you to everyone who came out on such a snowy night for our annual auction. I would also like to
thank everyone who stopped in to visit Holy Cross and Cardinal Mooney during Sunday’s campus open house. We are so blessed to be able to offer a quality Catholic
education for so many children.
We are now enrolling students in preschool through eighth grade. I encourage you to stop by or call the school office at 810-765-3591 or email me at
principal@holycrossonline.net to schedule a personal appointment. I would be happy to take you on a tour of our building and share our programs with you. I look forward
to having the opportunity to be your PARTNER in education.
Along the same lines, the deadline for the PSAS forms is quickly approaching. Filing the PSAS form is a prerequisite for tuition assistance. These forms are available in
the school, religious education, and all parish offices. There is a $20.00 fee required to file this form, but I believe that you will find it to be a worthwhile investment. This
form must be mailed in to the company, NOT returned to our school or parish offices, so please be sure to get yours today.
The holiest week of the year begins today with the celebration of Palm Sunday. As we carry on during the school week, we must keep in mind that we are not only
physically and mentally preparing for our Easter vacation, but we are spiritually preparing for the celebration of the greatest sacrifice, the true reason that we are Christians.
On Tuesday, March 18th, we will be having Stations of the Cross. I hope that you will have the time to join us at 1:20 p.m. as we remind ourselves of Jesus’ journey and
sacrifice. Wednesday, March 19th is our last day of school before Easter vacation. It is also the feast day of St. Joseph, the foster father of our Lord. What an amazing job
he had! Joseph shared his talents with the young Jesus and cared for Him as his own son. This day is truly one in which we should all be grateful for our parents and all
who nurture us in our lives.
The school office will be closed from Thursday, March 20th until we return to school on Monday, March 31st. Please feel free to leave us a voicemail or send an email if
you would like to learn more about our programs.
Our varsity girls’ volleyball season is winding down. The girls have put in a great deal of time practicing and have had a good season. There will be no volleyball games
during our Easter vacation. We will have two regular season games after we return from our break. Holy Cross will be hosting the Blue Water Parochial League volleyball
tournament on Friday, April 4 and Saturday, April 5. We hope that you will be able to come and support our team.
Finally, I would like to thank the many parishioners who join us for our Friday liturgies. It is such a blessing for our students to see faith in action. I encourage everyone
to join us in our Friday liturgies. In His Service,
Mrs. Amanda Lund, Principal

Words to Live By
Only Jesus knows what is in your heart and your deepest desires. Only he, who has loved you to the end, can fulfill your aspirations. His are words of eternal life, words that
give meaning to life. No one apart from Christ can give you true happiness. -Pope John Paul
Lent is the season that runs from Ash Wednesday until the start of the Mass of the Lord’s Supper. Good Friday is a day of fasting and abstinence and all Fridays
of Lent are days of abstinence.
The law of fasting binds people between 18 and 60 years of age and allows only one full meal a day but does not prohibit taking some food in the morning and
evening, drinking ordinary liquids does not break the fast.
The law of abstinence binds people 14 years and older and forbids the use of meat, but not of eggs, the products of milk or condiments made of animal fat.
Permissible are soups flavored with meat, meat gravy and sauces.
Lenten Observances
“Faithful is God, faithful and true;
Come, let us worship!”
Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion - we begin today the holiest week of the Church’s year. The Paschal Triduum is the three days, counted sunset to sunset,
from Holy Thursday night through Easter Sunday evening. We come together with all the people of our parish, to fast, pray, and keep watch with Christ and come to witness
resurrection in our very midst. May our thanksgiving to God begin to be expressed this Holy Thursday night by our presence at the evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper and
adoration of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament at the altar of repose.
Parish Adult Bible Study and Renewal
Lent, now coming to a close, is a season of being invited by God in a personal, individual way. From the first day of Lent, the scripture readings brought out how
extraordinary this sacred time is. Thank you to those who were able to accept the invitation and take the time to gather each Wednesday for Scripture study and prayer and
who provided soup at St. Catherine Activity Center:

Celebrating St. Patrick, St. Joseph
Since Church law specifies that the days of Holy Week and Easter take precedence over any other feasts that may fall that week, we celebrate St. Patrick and St.
Joseph feasts a few days earlier this year. St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland. We should remember the joy he found in serving God. The ‘Breastplate of St. Patrick’ is
a prayer of praise that best expresses his love and trust in God. “Christ be with me, Christ within me, Christ behind me, Christ before me, Christ beside me, Christ to win
me. Christ in the hearts of all who love me, Christ in the mouth of friend or stranger.’
St. Joseph, husband of Mary, guardian of Jesus, is described as a ‘just man’ and obedient. The Church began to celebrate his feast in the sixth century. Many
other saints looked to St. Joseph’s example. In 1870, he was proclaimed Patron of the Universal Church. By papal documents, St. Joseph is the patron of prayer, the
interior life, the poor, travelers, artisans, and all those who desire a happy death. He is the silent saint of the Holy Family. As we become more aware of the greatness of St.
Joseph’s mind and heart, may his life speak powerfully of obedience and faithful love. He is also the patron of my religious community, the Congregation of St. Joseph.
Trivia….Samuel communed with Saul on the top of the house…1Samuel 9:25. New Question: Who said: “God’s in His Heaven….”

Sharing the Gospel
When a famous person comes to town, everyone comes out to greet him. In today's Gospel everyone came to sing praises to Jesus. They even threw their capes
on the ground as a welcome carpet for him. However, the next day these same people hollered, "Crucify him." Jesus does not want you to be his friend
one day and turn your back on him the next day. He wants you to be his friend forever.
Prayer
Lord, help me be a good friend to others.
Mission for the Week
I will play my friend's favorite game and help him
with a chore today.
Living Stations of the Cross
Jesus showed His love for us by dying on the Cross for us. Now the young adults of our parish can share Jesus’ tribulations with their parish family by
participating in this year’s presentation of the Living Stations of the Cross on Good Friday.
Parishioners 13 years of age and older who would like to take part in this story of love are invited to contact Mrs. Kirsten Lents 810-794-0487 or Mrs. Catherine
Nutter 810-794-9493.
Please help us hold up our courageous men and women of the Armed Forces with prayer and recognition for the acts of protection they wholeheartedly and
selflessly continue to grace us with in our country. If you have family or close ones you would like to add to our prayer chain, please call any office of Our Lady on the River
or email us at bulletin@OurLadyontheRiver.net.
To Benefit Holy Cross School
The Galley Restaurant in Algonac has offered to donate profits from their Lenten cod dinners to Holy Cross School! The cost of dinner is $8.00; $1.25 of that will

The Sleep of Our Children
According to the National Sleep Foundation children
are not getting enough sleep. Experts recommend the
following sleep during a 24 hour period. Infants
3-11
months, 12 to 15 hours. Toddlers 1-3 years, 12 to 14
hours. Preschoolers 3-5 years, 11 to 13 hours.
School-aged children 1st through 5th grade, 10 to 11
hours
of sleep. Some tips to ensure good sleep
include, limiting caffeine intake during the evening
hours, not allowing T.V watching in bed during
bedtime, and getting into a
routine. Reading your
child a story in bed at night is a great way to end the day for both of you..

Holy Cross Easter Choir
The extra Easter Day Mass at Holy Cross at 12:30 p.m. needs a choir. We will rehearsal on Saturdays at 4:30 p.m., except Holy Saturday until Easter.
This choir is especially planned for children and families. All generations are welcome and encouraged to sing! I guess we could say that this is the All
Generations Easter Choir! Don't' send your child, BRING your child!
Come and share the mission and joy of Christian song! Music is evangelism and the Church has always valued its role in teaching and outreach. It's not
decoration, but it IS preaching!
~Daniel Susan, Director of Music Ministries

What Do You See?
Concentrate on the four dots in the middle of the picture for about 30 seconds. Then close your eyes and tilt your head back Keep your eyes closed. You will see
a circle of light. Continue looking at the circle. What do you see? Repeat. This time open your eyes and look at a blank wall. In our daily lives, just like in this picture, we
can’t always see Christ at first look.

SCRIP—It’s a TRIP!
Tuition Reduction Incentive Program
Defining Scrip…
Scrip is simply a word that means “substitute money.”
What is Scrip?
SCRIP is a program utilizing local and national merchants. You order Scrip money (in the forms of cards, certificates or checks) that you spend instead of cash. When you
shop at the hundreds of merchants using your Scrip money, they reimburse our school a percentage of the sale. It's easy, and you receive tuition credit for the money you
spend!
Who Can Use Scrip?
Anyone! You do not need to have children attending Holy Cross Catholic School. As an Our Lady on the River parishioner, you're encouraged to utilize our Scrip program for
all of your shopping needs as a way to support your church, your parish community, and your local school. You can designate your earned credit to go to a specific family in
need, or it will be deposited in the general fund. What a beautiful way to give, simply by shopping with money you're spending already!
How Is Scrip Applied?
Holy Cross Catholic School participates in a Scrip program to keep your tuition costs down, and to help support others in our school that needs tuition assistance. Profits
realized from your scrip purchases can be used in the form of Tuition Credits at Holy Cross School or Holy Cross Religious Education. If you do not have children enrolled at
our school, again, you can choose to gift your credit to a family in need or your funds will be deposited in the general fund to help support our tuition assistance program.
How Do I Get Started?
Simply complete a Scrip order form today! Complete the Scrip Weekly Order Form by downloading the form online or fill out a form at the school. Check off the items you
want for your shopping. You'll receive Scrip cards in return. It's that simple. You save money on your child's tuition simply for shopping at places you shop at anyway!
Supporting our Local Scrip Businesses
Businesses who participate in Scrip are donating a percentage of their sale back to our school. Please check out our businesses and purchase from our Scrip businesses!
SCRIP—It’s a TRIP! Tuition Reduction Incentive Program
Everybody wins with Scrip!
By purchasing your favorite Scrip store cards from Holy Cross first, everybody wins:
• The retailer gets cash up front and repeat business
• You get a powerful fundraising alternative without selling
• Our school gets a regular revenue
• You earn Tuition Credits for your child’s education
The beauty of Scrip is that you put your regular household shopping dollars to work. You earn money for your child’s tuition account as well as our school without spending
a single additional penny. Just spend your regular shopping dollars by using Scrip cards and certificates at the stores that participate in the Scrip program! And Scrip can be
used for just about any household purchase including food, clothing, entertainment and gasoline!
How Much Tuition Credit Will I Receive?
Each time you purchase Scrip through Holy Cross, that purchase is tracked in your family’s account. For example, if you purchase a $100 of VG’s gift cards through our
Scrip program, your credit of $4 is saved into your family’s account. At the end of the plan year, December 31st annually, 60% of your saved credit can be applied toward
your tuition bill. By the end of the year, if you utilize Scrip regularly, that could be $100s of dollars off of your school’s tuition bill!
You may also begin saving before your child enters kindergarten. Your banked credit is tracked until your child reaches kindergarten. When your child begins kindergarten at
Holy Cross, your tuition credit automatically is deducted from your tuition at the beginning of your kindergarten year. Preschool Scrip use can be banked for up to three
years since preschool tuition is considered a form of daycare by the IRS and not eligible for tuition credit.
Who Can I Call If I Have More Questions?
If you have additional questions, please contact our SCRIP coordinators.
